The Basel Sinfonietta, together with the Belgian soprano Ilse Eerens, ventures into imaginary soundscapes, is gripped by despair and madness, lets its gaze wander across the firmament and confronts a catastrophe that darkens the sky.
"Imaginary Landscape No. 1" by the American composer John Cage is considered the seminal work of electroacoustic music.
The orchestral song cycle «Let me tell you» by the Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen is based on a novella by the British librettist Paul Griffiths, in which a new monologue is created from the 483 words of Ophelia from Shakespeare's «Hamlet», which deals with love, hope, despair and madness.
Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho gazes at the winter sky and in her "Ciel d'hiver" creates a musical homage to the constellation Orion.
“… the sky, just so clear, suddenly darkens …”, is the title of the orchestral piece by Swiss composer Michael Jarrell – a musical juxtaposition of calm and catastrophe with an effect that is as powerful as it is emotionally stirring.
