Together with the Belgian soprano Ilse Eerens, the Basel Sinfonietta betakes itself into imaginary soundscapes, is seized by despair and delusion, lets its gaze wander across the firmament and confronts a catastrophe eclipsing the sky.
Imaginary Landscape No. 1 by the US composer John Cage is considered to be the initial work of electroacoustic music.
The orchestral song cycle Let me tell you by Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen is based on a novella by British librettist Paul Griffiths, in which the 483 words of Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet are transformed into a new monologue dealing with love, hope, despair and delusion.
Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho looks to the wintry sky for a musical homage to the constellation Orion in her Ciel d'hiver.
