The Basel Composition Competition is aimed at composers of all ages from around the world who compose new works and premiere them in Basel. Three works will be awarded prizes and prize money at competition concerts and a final concert.
In collaboration with the Paul Sacher Foundation, Artistic Management GmbH organized the Basel Composition Competition for the first time in 2017, an international composition competition under the direction of jury president Wolfgang Rihm.
The fifth edition of the Basel Composition Competition will take place from January 30 to February 2, 2025. The distinguished jury consists of jury president and composer Michael Jarrell, as well as internationally renowned composers Liza Lim, Augusta Read Thomas, Andrea L. Scartazzini, and the director of the Paul Sacher Foundation, Dr. Florian Besthorn. After the application deadline, they will select ten to twelve compositions to be performed by the Basel Sinfonietta under Pablo Rus Broseta, the Basel Chamber Orchestra under Tito Ceccherini, and the Basel Symphony Orchestra under Roland Kluttig at the Don Bosco Music and Cultural Center in Basel. The three to four best compositions will be awarded prizes at a final concert on February 2, 2025, totaling CHF 100,000, including an audience prize, which will be awarded for the first time in 2025.
