The Basel Sinfonietta celebrates the birthday of an important Swiss composer
On the occasion of his 60th birthday, the Basel Sinfonietta will honour the Swiss composer Dieter Ammann on 22 and 26 May with a club concert at the Jazzcampus Basel, a talk including a pre-concert with students of the Hochschule für Musik Basel and the 5th subscription concert "60 Years in the Groove" at the Stadtcasino Basel.
On the occasion of Dieter Ammann's 60th birthday, the Basel Sinfonietta will honour this important Swiss composer at its 5th subscription concert on 26 May with an evening dedicated to his meticulously notated music, which moves in a field of tension between the highest degree of differentiation and raw vitality. In addition, Dieter Ammann's importance as a composition teacher will be honoured with the premieres of two works commissioned by the Basel Sinfonietta to his students Aregnaz Martirosyan and Alsu Nigmatullina.
Already on Sunday, 22 May, at 7 p.m., there will be the unique opportunity to experience Dieter Ammann as an improviser on keyboards, trumpet and bass together with Jean-Paul Brodbeck (piano), Christy Doran (guitar) and Lucas Niggli (drums, percussion) in the intimate setting of the club on the Jazzcampus Basel. - A Carte Blanche of the Basel Sinfonietta for the jubilarian, who moves between the poles of composition and improvisation.
As a pre-event to the 5th subscription concert on 26 May at the Stadtcasino Basel, there will be a talk with Dieter Ammann and Uli Fussenegger, Head of Contemporary Music at the Basel School of Music, as well as a pre-concert with students of the Basel School of Music on the day of the concert at 6 pm. On the programme: Dieter Ammann's "Distanzenquartett" for string quartet (2009) and "D'accord(s)" for two alto saxophones (2004).
