To mark Dieter Ammann's 60th birthday, the Basel Sinfonietta will honor this important Swiss composer with an evening dedicated to his meticulously notated music, which exists in a tension between the highest level of differentiation and raw vitality, as part of its fifth subscription concert on May 26. Furthermore, Dieter Ammann's significance as a composition teacher will be recognized with the world premieres of two works commissioned by the Basel Sinfonietta from his students Aregnaz Martirosyan and Alsu Nigmatullina.

On Sunday, May 22nd, at 7 pm, there is a unique opportunity to experience Dieter Ammann improvising on keyboards, trumpet, and bass in the intimate setting of the club on the Jazzcampus Basel, together with Jean-Paul Brodbeck (piano), Christy Doran (guitar), and Lucas Niggli (drums, percussion). – A carte blanche from the Basel Sinfonietta for the celebrated musician, who moves between the poles of composition and improvisation.

As a prelude to the 5th subscription concert on May 26th at the Stadtcasino Basel, a talk with Dieter Ammann and Uli Fussenegger, Head of Contemporary Music at the Basel Academy of Music, will take place at 6 pm on the day of the concert, followed by a pre-concert performance by students of the Basel Academy of Music. The program includes Dieter Ammann's "Distanzenquartett" for string quartet (2009) and "D'accord(s)" for two alto saxophones (2004).
