NEW MANAGEMENT

Fiona Stevens will be the new managing director of the Basel Sinfonietta

As of July 1, 2025, Fiona Stevens will assume the role of Managing Director of the Basel Sinfonietta. With her appointment, we gain an internationally experienced cultural manager, musicologist, and violinist who combines artistic excellence with strategic thinking and social commitment. Her interdisciplinary perspective and dedication to innovative and socially relevant cultural work make her the ideal choice for our artistically and socially ambitious direction.

“We are convinced that Fiona Stevens will continue our successful path,” says our president, Fran Lorkovic. Fiona Stevens emphasizes: “The Basel Sinfonietta’s programmatic boldness and democratic spirit are unique. I look forward to helping shape this vision.”

At the same time, we would like to sincerely thank Daniela Martin for her dedicated work over the past years. She has guided us through challenging times and provided important impetus.

With Fiona Stevens, we continue our journey as an orchestra for music that is at the pulse of our time. The 2025/26 season opens on September 28 with "Rausch / Pilze" (Intoxication / Mushrooms) – including the world premiere of "Eleusis" by Stefan Wirth. On March 29, 2026, "Identität / Dialog" (Identity / Dialogue) follows, a program exploring Jewish and Persian musical cultures, including the world premiere of "Ungezähmter Fluss" (Untamed River) by Amen Feizabadi. The season concludes on May 31 under the title "Groove / Harmonie" (Groove / Harmony) and features the world premieres of "Dirge. In Memory of Thomas Wolfe" by Morton Feldman and Earle Brown's miniature "The Kind of Bird I Am".
