The Basel Sinfonietta honors the composer Dieter Ammanns with a portrait album
Dieter Ammann's working method is characterized by the meticulous notation of his works, which oscillate between the highest differentiation and raw vitality. He captures elemental forces in a conceptual yet sensually perceptible form.
Ammann composed the triptych "Core – Turn – Boost," consisting of three independent orchestral works, over a period of ten years, from 2000 to 2010. Each piece is intricately woven, yet retains its own distinct character. Nevertheless, the three works together form an inseparable unity. The triptych unfolds its unbridled energy primarily through its traverse of contrasting spheres. This creates a dramaturgy of tension and release, of the interplay between consistency and disparate elements, of movement and stillness.
This portrait album presents the triptych "Core – Turn – Boost" in its entirety for the first time.
The album is complemented by the violin concerto "unbalanced instability," in which Simone Zgraggen performs the solo part. This offers a multitude of perspectives – contributed reciprocally by the Basel Sinfonietta and the Swiss violin virtuoso and concertmaster of the orchestra, Simone Zgraggen.
The recording, conducted by Principal Conductor Baldur Brönnimann, was made as part of the subscription concert for Dieter Ammann's 60th birthday in May 2022.
