The Orquesta Exerimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN) as guests of the Basel Sinfonietta
The Basel Sinfonietta will perform with the OEIN chamber ensemble from La Paz (Bolivia) as part of its 2nd subscription concert on October 2nd.
Founded in 1980 in La Paz, Bolivia, the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN) uniquely combines the sonic spectrum of Andean instruments with the achievements of contemporary musical language. The musicians perform contemporary music composed exclusively for the orchestra on their traditional Bolivian instruments. The OEIN's chamber ensemble, consisting of seven soloists, performs with the Basel Sinfonietta.
OEIN's musical foundation is twofold: traditional music forms the technical and philosophical basis, while new music serves as a means of expression and defines its contemporary identity. In OEIN's repertoire, the instruments are integrated into the new music in their original construction, with their own traditional playing techniques, non-tempered tuning, and the characteristic playing style of the performers.
In its 40 years of existence, the OEIN has commissioned a large number of compositions and presented them at festivals around the world. In doing so, the OEIN has established itself as a space where cultural values and knowledge from the Andean highlands and the West converge. This also aims, not least, to broaden the horizons of a new generation of musicians.
