The Basel Sinfonietta states its position on the current attack on the Ukraine
The Basel Sinfonietta, an orchestra of musicians from many different nations, is an advocate of peace, understanding and cultural exchange between all peoples.
We are therefore firmly opposed to any military aggression. We are currently appealing for an immediate end to Russia's brutal and unjustified attack on the Ukraine, as well as the violence against civilians and their forced displacement.
We declare our solidarity with all those who have become victims of this war in various ways and who suffer from violence and war crimes, in particular with the civilian victims and all refugees. We also declare our solidarity with all people in Russia, Europe and worldwide who, like us, are protesting against this war, just as we stand in solidarity with all sincere efforts towards peace.
We aim to use the artistic means available to us to build bridges between all nations and establish common ground in order to prevent hatred, mistrust and hostility between peoples and to promote humanity, trust and solidarity.
